At 16, Lakshmanan Meyyappan Makes History as World’s Youngest Chartered Accountant

At an age when many teenagers are still discovering their interests and preparing for school examinations, Lakshmanan Meyyappan has already made history in the world of finance.
The Dubai-based Indian-origin teenager has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s youngest male Chartered Accountant, having qualified at 16 years and 170 days in June 2021. His record was formally announced in February 2026.
Meyyappan’s achievement began during the COVID-19 pandemic after he completed his Class 10 examinations. With schools closed, his mother, an ACCA professional, introduced him to accounting. What began as an opportunity to learn at home quickly developed into a passion.
At 15, Meyyappan began preparing for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants qualification and completed it in about a year. He later earned the CFA charter and now works as a Senior Research Analyst at Century Financial in Dubai.
For a child-focused platform, his story is worth celebrating not simply because of the record, but because it demonstrates what can happen when children are given encouragement, mentorship and opportunities to explore their abilities.
Importantly, Meyyappan has said he did not approach his qualifications as a race. He described curiosity and understanding as more important than speed.
That message matters. Children’s achievements should not become pressure to compete or grow up too quickly. Every child develops differently.
Meyyappan’s story celebrates exceptional talent while reminding adults that the role is to nurture children’s curiosity, provide support and allow their abilities to flourish at their own pace.
Beyond finance, he also designs and makes watches, showing that a remarkable young achiever can still make room for creativity and play.
