Lagos Makes LASRRA Registration Mandatory for All School Enrolments From September 14
From the 2026/2027 academic session, the Lagos State Government has announced that registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) will be mandatory for learners who wish to gain admission into public and private schools in the state.
The directive, which was approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, will come into effect from Monday, September 14, 2026.
The new policy stipulates that every learner must be registered and have a valid LASRRA number, which must be obtained and recorded during the admission and enrolment process. The number should also be recorded in the school and admission records.
The policy aims to create a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners to aid planning, monitoring and service delivery in the education sector, the state government said.
The government said that the registration of learners on the LASRRA database will enhance the school’s record keeping, identification and verification process, and give government agencies information for decision making.
Schools have been asked to sensitise parents and guardians on the need to register and to advise parents/guardians of children/wards who are not registered with LASRRA to do so before the new academic session.
The government also instructed schools to safeguard the personal data of learners and ensure that it is treated confidentially and securely, in accordance with relevant data protection guidelines.
The Office of Education Quality Assurance stated that it would collaborate with LASRRA and other agencies to facilitate the registration, verification and issuance of unique PINs to learners.
The implementation of the directive will be part of the monitoring activities of the OEQA in public and private schools in Lagos.
