WAEC Results Storm Deepens as Police Summon Official Over Alleged Exam Irregularities
The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre has called for the presence of a West African Examinations Council (WAEC) official for questioning on charges of cyberstalking and criminal defamation, as a result of a dispute over the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Nigeria.

Olanrewaju Fadehan, the Head of Examinations, WAEC, Anambra office, was summoned to appear before the cybercrime centre in Abuja on Wednesday after allegations were made against the examination body and its Director-General, Dr Amos Dangut.
The development follows an interim order granted by the Lagos State High Court to prohibit Fadehan from publishing or circulating statements about WAEC, its examinations, results and certificates, and Dangut’s character and integrity.
In viral videos, Fadehan had raised concerns over the recently released results of the 2026 exams, claiming that the results could have been irregular and may have impacted candidates. He also asked about the use of calculators in exams and about fees and other services.
WAEC has refuted the allegations, calling them false and sensational, while Fadehan has said that his concerns were raised in the interest of candidates and has challenged the council’s allegations against him.
The controversy has highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in examination systems, especially as the results of senior secondary exams can impact children’s access to higher education and future prospects.
The court order is likely to be in effect for seven days, unless it is renewed.
