Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a new California law in honor of Gabriel Fernandez, 8, that will enhance protections for children who might be experiencing abuse and need immediate medical attention. Gabriel’s Law, Assembly Bill 2304, was named after Gabriel who died in 2013 after being abused for months. His case brought the issue of child welfare failures to the forefront and questions about the proper response to warning signs.
