Anambra Child Trafficking Ring Busted, 3-Year-Old Safely Recovered
In a major success against child trafficking, the Anambra State Police Command has rescued a three-year-old boy reported stolen earlier in the state and arrested six members of a child-stealing and trafficking syndicate operating across Anambra, Enugu, and Lagos states.
The case began on September 4, 2025, when a mother reported that she had left her three-year-old son in the care of Samuel Ibe of Umusiome, Nkpor Uno, while briefly attending to her shop. Upon her return, both the child and Samuel were missing.
Swift investigative actions by operatives attached to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, led to the arrest of Samuel Ibe. His confessional statement subsequently led to the arrest of his mother, Agatha Ejeweh (35 years), and his younger brother, Ejeweh Chigozie Chidera (15 years).
Investigations were further extended to Enugu State, resulting in the apprehension of Angela Eze (30 years) and her accomplice, Juliet Onah, who were allegedly facilitating the transfer of the child to Lagos.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives then moved to Lagos State, where China Cosmas was arrested and the child was safely recovered. The boy has since been reunited with his family in good health.
All six suspects remain in custody and are expected to be charged in court upon the completion of investigations. Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the swift actions of the operatives and reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, warning criminals that Anambra State is unsafe for illicit activities.
This case highlights the critical importance of safeguarding children and protecting their rights. Every child has the right to protection from abduction, trafficking, and all forms of exploitation, as well as the right to family care and safety.
The swift rescue and arrest of the perpetrators reinforce the legal and moral obligation to ensure children grow up in secure environments, free from harm and criminal exploitation.
