“‘Can’t Do This, Mumma’: Jaipur Girl’s Final Call Exposes School Bullying”

A chilling phone conversation between nine-year-old Amayra and her mother in July 2024 has come to light, revealing the distress that preceded the girl’s tragic death.
In the recording, Amayra pleads with her mother not to send her to school, explaining that classmates were bullying her. “Mumma, I don’t want to go to school. Everyone troubles me… Please get me admitted to another school. I can’t do this anymore,” she said, her fear evident in her voice.
Despite the mother raising concerns with the class teacher and sharing screenshots of repeated messages warning of her daughter’s fear, the school reportedly did not respond.
Amayra’s parents allege that their daughter had approached teachers multiple times about being bullied, including on the day of the incident.
CCTV footage from November 1 shows Amayra climbing onto a railing on the fourth floor of Neerja Modi School in Jaipur, before falling nearly 48 feet. She was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Her father, Vijay, expressed suspicion over the pace of the police investigation, suggesting that the truth lies in what occurred in the classroom.
The family has filed an FIR against the school, questioning how such a tragedy could occur on campus and demanding accountability from the teaching staff. The Joint Parents’ Association of Rajasthan also highlighted that Amayra had been bullied for one to two years and called for strict action.
Police indicated that the fall appeared to be a suicide, noting that the area had been cleaned before their arrival. Amayra, the only child of her parents, leaves behind a grieving family.
This heartbreaking incident underscores the urgent need to protect children from bullying and ensure safe educational environments. Every child has the right to protection, dignity, and a safe space to learn, as enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
