Chandigarh Schools Closed Today Amid Severe Weather

In response to severe weather conditions, all schools in Chandigarh will remain closed on September 3, following an official directive issued on Tuesday.
The union territory, which serves as the shared capital of Punjab and Haryana, has been inundated with over 140 mm of rainfall since Sunday, prompting widespread concern.
The closure comes as rivers Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi, along with seasonal rivulets, overflowed due to heavy rains in their catchment areas across Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
Large parts of Punjab are now grappling with flood-like conditions, and all educational institutions in the state have been shut until Wednesday. Haryana, too, has been impacted by relentless downpours.
This precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of students and staff amid rising water levels and disrupted infrastructure.
This situation affirms every child’s inherent right to life, survival, and development. It also guarantees the right to health and safety, including protection from environmental hazards. In times of severe weather, safeguarding children’s well-being must remain a top priority.
