Children at Risk: Pregnant Woman and Infant Abducted in Kaduna Night Raid

In a terrifying raid in Sabon Gero, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, a pregnant woman, a nursing mother with her infant, and five other family members were abducted by suspected bandits. The children, including a nursing baby, were forced into dangerous conditions, exposing them to life-threatening risks and extreme trauma. One escapee, Jamila Alhaji Ado, described being forced to trek for hours despite her inability to walk, highlighting the immediate physical danger and the severe stress endured by the youngest victims.
The incident underscores a critical violation of children’s fundamental right to survival, safety, and protection. Exposure to armed violence, abduction, and separation from caregivers threatens both the physical life and the psychological well-being of children, increasing the risk of long-term trauma, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. The death of a local vigilante during the attack further illustrates the extreme dangers present in these communities, putting children’s survival at ongoing risk.
Experts warn that such attacks reveal urgent gaps in safeguarding children in conflict-affected areas. Immediate rescue efforts, trauma-informed support, and stronger community protection systems are essential to uphold children’s right to life and safety.
This abduction serves as a stark reminder that protecting children from violence is not optional, it is a fundamental obligation, requiring coordinated action from law enforcement, child protection agencies, and local communities to ensure every child’s right to survive and thrive.
