Children Spotlight for the Week: Ryan Hickman

Ryan Hickman started his incredible environmental journey at the age of just 3 years old when a visit to a local recycling center sparked a lifelong passion. After that experience, Ryan told his parents he wanted to collect recyclables from their neighbors, handing out empty bags for them to fill with cans and bottles. What began as a small neighborhood effort soon grew, and today, Ryan runs a successful recycling operation in Orange County, California, collecting recyclables from customers all over the area. His dedication has led to the recycling of nearly two million cans and bottles to date.

Ryan’s goal is to keep waste from polluting the oceans and harming the environment. Every week, he spends time sorting through recyclables and preparing them for the recycling center, playing his part in protecting the planet.
