A teacher and a police officer teamed up to extinguish a fire at Pentucket Regional High School in West Newbury, Massachusetts, on Saturday afternoon.

The fire, which broke out around 3 p.m. on the stage of the school auditorium, activated the building’s fire alarm. Firefighters arrived to find that the blaze had already been contained thanks to a Pentucket teacher, who had been working with the school’s robotics team, and a West Newbury police officer. Using a fire extinguisher, they managed to put out the flames, and firefighters worked to water down hot spots and ventilate the building.

In response, school officials announced that Pentucket Regional High School would remain closed Monday and Tuesday to ensure safety. Elementary schools in the district will operate as usual, and officials remain optimistic about reopening soon.
