Child Abduction

Day 27: Hope, Anxiety Persist as Oyo, Borno Schoolchildren, Teachers Remain in Captivity

Today marks 27 days since schoolchildren and teachers were abducted from schools in Oyo and Borno states, leaving families trapped between hope and uncertainty as efforts to secure their release continue.

This week brought fresh developments in the search for the affected persons. The Nigerian Air Force confirmed that surveillance aircraft have been deployed to support rescue operations, while security agencies continue to track the movements of the abductors.

Authorities have also announced the arrest of suspects believed to have provided information and logistical support to the criminal groups behind the attacks.

Beyond security efforts, the case gained wider attention after Afrobeats star Davido used the FIFA World Cup Countdown stage to highlight the plight of the abducted children and teachers.

Wearing a customized jacket bearing the names of some of the affected pupils and the message “Bring Them Home,” the singer called for peace and urged authorities to intensify rescue efforts.

Meanwhile, parents and relatives continue to wait for positive news. Many have renewed calls for swift action, warning that each passing day deepens the trauma experienced by families and communities.

As Day 27 ends, the demand remains unchanged: bring the children and teachers home safely.
