Dowen College Sealed Over Waste Management Violations

The Lagos State Government has sealed Dowen College, Lekki Phase 1, after waste traced to the school was found to have been improperly disposed of.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, described the incident as a clear violation of environmental laws, warning that such disregard for public health and safety will not be tolerated. According to him, the Corps Marshall of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps has been directed to seal the premises immediately.
“We will not hesitate to take firm action against any institution or organisation that violates our waste management regulations,” Wahab stated. “Lagos must remain clean, safe, and healthy for all residents, and enforcement will continue without compromise.”
The commissioner reaffirmed the state’s commitment to maintaining environmental standards through its #CleanerLagos and #GreaterLagos initiatives, noting that schools, businesses, and individuals have a duty to protect the environment for the good of all.
Every child has the right to education in a safe and healthy environment. As a place of learning, the school should serve as a model for proper environmental practices, shaping young learners to value public health, community well-being, and responsible citizenship.
