Edo School Emerges Champion in South-South Robotics Challenge

Ozolua Grammar School, Ologbo in Edo State, has emerged winner of a 16-week STEM training programme on robotics, triumphing over eight other secondary schools at the grand finale held in Effurun, Delta State.
The initiative, themed “Robotics for a Sustainable and Inclusive Skilled Economy,” brought together students from Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states. It was facilitated by Contego Servo, Odyssey Educational Foundation, and Phoenix Girls Tech Foundation, with sponsorship from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).
Speaking at the event, Dr. Elizabeth Eterigho, Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Girls Tech Foundation, described robotics as more than a learning tool, but a pathway to innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving essential for the 21st-century workforce.
“For four months, teachers and students have learned not just robotics and programming, but how knowledge can translate into skills and skills into solutions,” she said. “The projects showcased reflect creativity, teamwork, and determination, proving that when given the opportunity, our young people can dream, design, and deliver solutions that matter.”
Representatives of NCDMB and the Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, praised the programme and pledged continued support for expanding STEM education in schools.
Iwere Secondary School, Koko, in Delta took second place, while Nana Model College, Warri, came third. Other participating schools included Ajoki Secondary School in Edo; Okotie Eboh Grammar School, Sapele in Delta; CSS Okutukutu/Etegwe and Epie National High School, Yenagoa in Bayelsa; as well as schools from Rivers State.
Mr. Okoh Isaac, a teacher from the winning school, expressed gratitude for the victory, commending the organisers and urging the government to invest more in technology for the benefit of future generations.
By participating in platforms like this STEM robotics programme, children exercise their right to participation, not only by learning, but by shaping the future through their creativity and innovation.
