In a historic achievement for Nigeria’s education sector, Mr. Seyi Anifowose, a Nigerian teacher and education advocate, has officially entered the Guinness World Records for organizing the highest gathering of teachers in a single location.

On September 20, 2025, Anifowose convened the Let There Be Teachers Conference at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, drawing a record-breaking 60,000 teachers from across the country.

The event, powered by 1 Million Teachers, was designed not just to set a record, but to spotlight the importance of education and amplify the voices of teachers who remain the bedrock of national development.

The recognition was formally announced by Guinness World Records representative Rishi Nath via Zoom on September 23. Commending the feat, Nath emphasized that the achievement was more than a numerical victory, it elevated education to the center of national dialogue.

“This is more than a number. It is proof that teachers matter. It is a victory for education, and it is a victory for Nigeria,” Anifowose said, while acknowledging the resilience of teachers who endured rain, heat, and long verification lines to make the record possible.

Gratitude was also extended to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for hosting the historic gathering, and to Governor Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, alongside teacher unions and agencies at both state and federal levels, for their unwavering support.

Looking to the future, Anifowose and his team intend to channel this momentum toward policy reforms, engaging the National Assembly to strengthen teacher welfare and drive improvements in Nigeria’s education system.

At its core, this milestone is not only a celebration of teachers but also a reminder of what is at stake, the future of every Nigerian child. Every child has the right to quality education. That right can only be fulfilled when they are taught by empowered, well-supported teachers.
