Child Abduction

Four-Week-Old Baby Found Safe After Alleged Abduction Linked to Pastor

Police in Niger State have rescued and reunited a four-week-old baby with its mother after discovering an alleged abduction scam by a man who claimed to be a pastor and another suspect.

The Command of the Niger State Police Command said the child was allegedly abducted from the mother at the Mobil Roundabout, Minna, where the suspect allegedly gained the mother’s trust by promising to help the newborn.

The police said investigations started when they received a report at the ‘A’ Division, Minna, on July 14. According to the command, a 24-year-old man, Chidi Johnson aka “Yaron Pastor”, was arrested after intelligence efforts.

Johnson allegedly took the nursing mother and her friend to an unfinished building, claiming the baby would be fed and cared for by a “benefactor. The child was reported to have been carried out of the building by the suspect through a back entrance and then on a motorcycle.

Another suspect, Zainab Ibrahim, 22, has also been arrested on charges of contracting Johnson to get a newborn baby after a miscarriage.

The rescue serves as a reminder of the importance of enhanced vigilance, greater community awareness, and measures to protect children from abductions and vulnerable babies. The suspects are still in custody and will be prosecuted when investigations are complete, police said.
