JAMB: 2025 UTME to Be Released Today

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be released on Friday, May 9, 2025. According to an official statement made available to The PUNCH in Abuja, the release is scheduled to take place at the JAMB National Headquarters in Bwari by 8:00 a.m.
This means candidates who participated in this year’s UTME can begin checking their results from Friday morning.
Ahead of the result release, JAMB also shared performance statistics for the over 1.9 million candidates who sat for the exam. The data paints a troubling picture: more than 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 out of the total 400 marks, a score generally considered to be the average benchmark.
The UTME, which assesses candidates across four subjects, includes the compulsory Use of English, along with three other subjects relevant to each candidate’s chosen course of study.
Reacting to the widespread low performance, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the results reflect the effectiveness of the government’s ongoing efforts to combat examination malpractice. “The high failure rate in the 2025 UTME is clear evidence that the government’s anti-malpractice measures are yielding results, especially within the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board system,” he stated.
