JAMB Sets Oct 31 Deadline for Public University Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has directed all Nigerian public universities to finalise their 2025 admission processes by October 31, 2025.
According to the board’s schedule, private universities must complete admissions by November 30, while all tertiary institutions, public or private, have until December 31, 2025, to wrap up their admission exercises.
This directive, contained in JAMB’s weekly bulletin, follows resolutions from the 2025 Policy Meeting chaired by the Minister of Education. The move aims to stabilise the academic calendar and ensure equitable access to admission slots.
JAMB further instructed institutions conducting post-UTME screenings to complete them early enough to meet the 2025 admission timeline. It stressed that even if an institution is not ready to begin its new academic session, it should complete and archive its admission process within the stipulated deadlines.
The 2025 UTME results, released in May, formed the basis of this year’s admissions. The exam, scored over 400 marks, tests candidates in four subjects, including compulsory Use of English and three others relevant to the chosen course.
Between 2020 and 2024, over 8.9 million candidates sat for the UTME. However, only about 2.7 million secured admission, leaving nearly six million stranded, many forced to re-register and retake the exam in subsequent years.
This underscores the urgent need to expand access to tertiary education. Every child has the right to education, and policies must ensure that no aspiring student is left behind due to systemic bottlenecks.
