A tragic fire outbreak has razed the girls’ hostel at Dano Memorial Secondary School, located in Gidan Mission, Gani, within Sumaila LGA, Kano State. The incident occurred on Monday, shortly after students vacated for the end-of-term holiday, sparing lives but leaving devastation in its wake.

According to a statement from the LGA Information Officer, Sumaila Gunduwawa, the inferno destroyed nearly all the students’ personal belongings, including clothing, books, and essential items. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

The chairman of the local government, Farouk Abdu, visited the school to assess the damage and donated 50 bags of cement to support reconstruction. He pledged continued support and emphasized the importance of rebuilding quickly and safely.

School proprietor Rev. Alhassan Musa expressed relief that no students were harmed and thanked the local government for its immediate response and solidarity.

Losing personal belongings due to preventable disasters can cause emotional and psychological harm to children. Schools must be equipped with adequate safety measures to ensure that learning spaces remain secure against such tragedies.
