Killeen Independent School District (KISD) is making adjustments to the 2024-25 school schedule to tackle ongoing bus delays and enhance student punctuality. During Tuesday’s Board of Trustees meeting, transportation officials outlined how these changes will streamline bus routes and provide families with a more reliable schedule.
Dr. Don Rowls, Executive Director for Transportation Services, explained that the current tiered bell schedule creates tight time constraints, leading to frequent delays. The new adjustments will ensure that students arrive on time and ready to learn, while families benefit from a more consistent routine.
What’s Changing?
- Most school start times will shift by 5 to 7 minutes.
- Some campuses will see more significant changes to better align transportation schedules.
- The changes were developed using feedback from a November parent survey, ensuring that family concerns were considered.
Why It Matters
“We know that our current schedule creates challenges that do not support student success,” Rowls said. “By adjusting start times, we’re creating a more efficient transportation system that improves punctuality and better serves our students and families.”
