In a bold step toward reforming non-state education, the Lagos State Government has inaugurated a 17-member committee to develop and implement a comprehensive policy for private and mission-owned schools.

Spearheaded by the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), the policy aims to align with national benchmarks while catering to the unique educational landscape of Lagos.

At the unveiling, Permanent Secretary Abisola Dokumu-Adegbite affirmed the state’s commitment to inclusive, quality education under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The committee is tasked with delivering a world-class policy within two months, expected to replace outdated guidelines and streamline compliance for non-state school operators.

Dr. Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa, Director of Private Education and Special Programmes at OEQA, chairs the committee. He emphasized the importance of a unified and transparent regulatory framework that supports sustainable education delivery.

Stakeholders across the religious and private education sectors hailed the move as long overdue and critical for future development. The forthcoming policy is expected to lead to enforceable legislation that will guide the operations of private and mission schools across Lagos.
