NAFDAC Boss Sounds Alarm: Invest in Women and Children or Risk Nigeria’s Future

Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has called for increased investment in the well-being of women and children, describing it as vital to Nigeria’s long-term health and development. She made this appeal during NAFDAC’s commemoration of International Women’s Day 2026 in Abuja, held under the theme “Give to Gain.”

Speaking at the event, Adeyeye stressed that prioritising women and children is not just a social responsibility but a strategic necessity for building a healthier and more sustainable future. She noted that women play a central role in public health and national progress, both within institutions like NAFDAC and across communities.

The event also served as an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contributions of NAFDAC staff, particularly women, whose efforts continue to strengthen the agency’s mandate of safeguarding public health. Adeyeye highlighted the resilience, dedication, and impact of female professionals working in regulatory and health sectors.

She further drew attention to NAFDAC’s maternal, newborn and child health initiative launched in November 2025. According to her, the programme reflects the agency’s broader commitment to improving health outcomes for vulnerable groups and ensuring safer lives for Nigerians.

Adeyeye concluded by urging stakeholders, policymakers, and institutions to integrate sustained investment in women and children into national development strategies, noting that such efforts will yield lasting benefits for society as a whole.
