Niger: 10-Year-Old Dies After Clash With Other Children

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of 10-year-old Abubakar Lawal following a fight among children in Karaku village, Rafi LGA.

The incident occurred on August 11 at about 5:30 p.m., when Lawal and another 9-year-old boy were returning from grazing sheep and were confronted by four other children.

During the confrontation, a 10-year-old boy struck both boys with a stick, leaving Lawal fatally injured.

Lawal was pronounced dead at General Hospital, Kagara, while the other injured boy remains under treatment. The body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy, and police investigations are ongoing.

This tragic incident violates the child’s right to life and their protection from physical violence, highlighting the urgent need to safeguard children in our communities.
