Oklahoma Couple Accused of Child Neglect After 11-Year-Old Gives Birth Without Medical Care

An 11-year-old girl in Muskogee, Oklahoma, was forced to endure a traumatic experience after giving birth to a baby at home without medical care or supervision.
Her mother and stepfather have been charged with felony child neglect for failing to protect her and provide the care she desperately needed.
Authorities say the child had not seen a doctor in more than a year, received no prenatal care, and delivered the baby entirely on her own before being taken to the hospital.
Investigators are also looking into how she became pregnant, with paternity tests still pending.
This case is a painful reminder that children deserve more than survival; they are entitled to protection and care. Under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, every child has the right to protection from neglect and abuse, the right to the highest attainable standard of health and medical care, and the right to protection from sexual exploitation and abuse.
These rights were clearly denied in this young girl’s ordeal.
