Oyo Abduction: Police Debunk Rumour Claiming Schoolchildren, Teachers Were Moved to Kaduna

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Orire Local Government Area were flown to Kaduna State, describing the information as false and capable of causing unnecessary fear among families and the public.

The claim, which circulated on social media, alleged that the children and teachers abducted from Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities had been moved by helicopter. However, the police said the video and information attached to the claim were unverified, misleading, and lacked any credible evidence.

From a child protection perspective, authorities stressed that spreading unconfirmed information during a child abduction crisis can increase distress for families and communities already experiencing trauma. The police urged members of the public to depend on verified updates and avoid sharing reports that may create panic or interfere with ongoing rescue operations.

The command said rescue efforts are continuing in collaboration with other security and intelligence agencies, with the goal of safely returning the affected children and teachers to their families.

The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of children in learning environments, especially in communities facing security threats. Child protection advocates have continued to call for stronger measures to prevent attacks on schools, improve early warning systems, and ensure that affected children receive adequate support after their return.

As families wait for updates, attention remains focused on securing the safe recovery of the abducted schoolchildren and ensuring that schools become safer spaces for learning rather than targets of violence.
