Phoenix Student Arrested for Hiding Gun Outside School Entrance

A student is in custody after burying a handgun just outside the entrance of Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix.
According to police, a staff member reported the discovery of a partially buried handgun near the school entrance. Surveillance footage later identified a student, who was interviewed and taken into custody without incident.
The student, whose identity has not been released, now faces a charge of child in possession of a firearm. Police have not provided further details.
While schools must remain safe places for learning, it’s equally important to remember that children in conflict with the law are still entitled to their rights.
Under the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), Article 40, every child accused of an offense has the right to treatment that promotes dignity, worth, and reintegration into society.
