Police Arrest 15-Year-Old IDP Over Dumping Baby in Toilet

A tragic incident has unfolded at the Charamari Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Monguno, Borno State, where a 15-year-old girl has been arrested for allegedly dumping the body of a newborn infant in a pit toilet. The teenager is a displaced person residing in the camp.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the lifeless body of the infant was discovered around 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Later that morning, at approximately 9:15 a.m., police received a report about the incident.
Officers, along with medical personnel, promptly visited the scene to investigate. They photographed the site and evacuated the infant’s body to the General Hospital in Monguno.
Upon arrival at the hospital, a doctor confirmed that the newborn was dead. The body was subsequently deposited at the hospital morgue for an autopsy. Following medical examination, the infant’s remains were released to the chairman of the IDP camp for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The teen is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
