Police Crack Down on Oyo School Riot, Arrest 59 Students

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 59 students from Government Technical College, Orita-Aperin, following an attack on Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School. The incident, which occurred last Thursday, resulted in property destruction, injuries to teachers, and vandalized school facilities.

State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, confirmed that 17 students were found culpable, while the rest were released. He condemned the rising trend of school-related violence and cultism, urging immediate intervention from stakeholders.

In response, the police have launched sensitization programs across schools in Oyo State to curb gang violence. The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Saliu Adelabu, commended the police for their swift action and assured that juvenile courts are prepared to handle offenders.

The stakeholders’ meeting, attended by school principals, government officials, and parents, emphasized the need for parental monitoring and collaborative efforts to restore discipline among students.
