February 12 2024- In the United States, there are approximately 2.2 million domestic workers, a significant portion of whom work as nannies. Nannies perform diverse and demanding tasks, ranging from driving children to school to live-in caregiving and meal preparation. Despite their crucial roles in families and society, nannies often work in private homes, making their contributions undervalued and susceptible to exploitation. There can be misunderstandings between parents’ expectations and the reality of employing or being a nanny. HuffPost sought insights from nannies on their experiences working for families, including the most significant lessons learned and the things they strongly advise against (the “won’ts”). These insights provide valuable perspectives on the challenges and dynamics of the nanny profession.
