In Batavia, Ohio, a former West Clermont High School employee, Allison Vestring, pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawfully restraining a student by taping them to a chair. The incident involved a 15-year-old student with Down syndrome, described as having the intellect of a preschooler and limited verbal communication. The individuals involved faced consequences after showing the video to other faculty members, resulting in their dismissal from the school. Vestring, along with her former co-worker Rachel Smith, faces the same misdemeanor charge. Vestring was released on her own recognizance with orders to refrain from contacting the student or his family.
