Bill that aimed to make banning books from libraries harder fails in committee

February 29 2024- A bill that aimed to make it more challenging for libraries and schools to remove books from their collections has failed in the Senate Education Committee. After several hours of testimony on Monday, the sponsors of the bill requested a delay in the vote to work on changes. On Wednesday, they introduced an amendment aimed at providing school districts more flexibility to establish their own processes for handling objections to library resources from external parties. The amendment was an attempt to address concerns from school boards about the bill potentially violating local control laws.
