On Tuesday, Connecticut’s Regulation Review Committee approved a change to child care ratios for toddlers, allowing one early childhood educator to care for five 2-year-olds instead of four. This regulation also permits up to 10 toddlers in a classroom with at least two caregivers. Office of Early Childhood Commissioner Beth Bye stated the adjustment could create between 650 and 1,000 new child care slots, making it easier for parents to work. Despite concerns raised by pediatricians about the potential negative impacts on caregiver-child relationships and health safety, all lawmakers present initially approved the change, with some expressing the need for ongoing evaluation.
