Angela Wilson’s son, Finn, who has Down’s syndrome, was left distressed on his first day back at St. Gerard’s School in west Belfast when the bus organized by the Education Authority (EA) failed to arrive. Despite Wilson’s attempts to confirm the bus schedule over the summer, she received no updates and was left wondering if transportation would be provided. Finn, eager to return to school and see his friends, was upset while waiting for the bus, which never came. The family had to arrange alternative transportation at the last minute. Wilson, who has three other children, faced additional stress as her other children also needed to get to school. The EA apologized for the disruption, explaining that they were notified at the last moment by the third-party provider that they could not fulfill the route. The EA has pledged to minimize future disruptions.
