Early childhood educators and parents in DC rally against Bowser’s decision to cut pay equity

< 1 min read

On Friday morning, over 250 early childhood educators and parents gathered at Samuel Gompers Memorial Park in Washington, D.C., to protest Mayor Muriel Bowser’s proposal to eliminate the Early Childhood Educator Pay Equity Fund. This fund, crucial for supporting fair wages for childcare teachers, faces removal under the mayor’s 2025 fiscal year budget plan. Protesters expressed concerns about the impact of this decision, highlighting that approximately 4,000 childcare teachers could lose their earned wage increases. At-Large Councilmember Christina Henderson emphasised the importance of fair pay for these educators, noting their essential role in the economy.
