Family Evicted from Temporary Housing after Having Grandparents over for a Brew: ‘It Blew my Mind

< 1 min read

Hayley Blanks, facing eviction from temporary accommodation in Bexhill-on-Sea, defends her decision to invite family and friends over, despite a strict no-visitor rule imposed by the provider. She argues that such a ban is cruel and detrimental to her children’s wellbeing, particularly as it could isolate them during a prolonged stay in temporary housing. A recent UCL report highlights that these bans can hinder children’s social development and mental health. Hayley and her family had previously lived comfortably in private rentals until a combination of job loss and significant rent increases forced them into temporary housing. After moving in, they were shocked to learn about the visitor restrictions, which she believes negatively impacts her children’s lives, especially her son, who has severe asthma and allergies.
