A study commissioned by Primrose Schools and conducted by OnePoll reveals that parents are deeply concerned about their child’s academic and character development before the age of 5. Among the 2,000 parents surveyed, 59% expressed concerns about their children’s academic and character development, with worries about social skills, communication abilities, and cooperative behaviors. The study highlights the challenges parents face in supporting their children’s development, including establishing routines, teaching positive behaviours, and planning activities. Preschools are considered a crucial part of parents’ support systems, along with immediate and extended family and friends. When selecting preschools, parents prioritise safety, qualified teachers, and kindergarten readiness. However, when not seeking advice from their support system, 73% of parents occasionally turn to the internet for parenting advice, although 43% feel overwhelmed by the information they find online. The study also lists the top 10 skills parents want their children to learn before kindergarten, including naming colours, sharing, verbal skills, and numbers and shapes.
