As a special education teacher, I’ve observed that many students struggle with math, often adding numbers without understanding the problems. To assist, I introduced keywords for operations, but this approach often led students to miss the context. The issue highlights the link between literacy and math skills, as reading abilities directly affect problem-solving capabilities. Research shows that literacy and numeracy are interconnected, yet pre-K teachers dedicate only about 2.5% of their day to numeracy. This emphasizes the need for integrated teaching that combines math and literacy to improve overall academic outcomes.
