Rebecca Joynes, a 30-year-old high school math teacher in Manchester, was sentenced to over six years in prison. She faced charges related to inappropriate relationships with two 15-year-old students, referred to as Boy A and Boy B. The incidents occurred in 2021, after schools returned to in-person learning following COVID lockdowns. Joynes initially connected with Boy A through Snapchat and met him outside of school, including a shopping trip. During the trial, details emerged about Joynes’ background and the nature of her interactions with the students. One of the students provided a victim impact statement during the sentencing. Joynes spent five months in prison for violating her bail conditions before receiving bail again in November 2023.
