Iowa governor says it’s ‘not sustainable’ to give $40 per month to kids from low-income families for food

February 1 2024- Iowa has decided not to participate in the 2024 Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer for Children (Summer EBT) program, a federal initiative providing $40 per month to each child in low-income families to assist with food costs during school breaks. The state officials from the Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Education have informed the U.S. Department of Agriculture about their decision, as stated in a news release on Friday.
