Interest in utilising artificial intelligence (AI) is growing among K–12 and college educators, yet its integration into early childhood education remains in the early stages. Isabelle Hau, executive director of Stanford Accelerator for Learning, discussed the potential benefits and challenges of AI in early learning. Some teachers are exploring AI for novel forms of assessment and innovative classroom approaches, such as computer vision and gamified learning. AI technologies like FIND and emotion recognition glasses are emerging to support child-adult interactions and emotional development. However, caution is urged due to privacy concerns, biases in AI systems, and equity issues. Looking ahead, there’s hope for AI-powered solutions to improve access to early childhood care and education.
