More CPS Students are Graduating from High School, but Finishing College is Still a Struggle

< 1 min read

A new report from The To&Through Project reveals that Chicago Public Schools (CPS) students are graduating from high school at record rates, increasing from 62% in 2008 to 85% in 2023. However, researchers predict that less than one-third of current ninth graders will earn a college credential in the next decade. The report highlights disparities in graduation rates among different racial groups: 93% of young white women and 90% of young white men graduated in 2023, compared to 88% and 83% for young Latino students, and 85% and 78% for young Black students.
