As children lined up outside Browning School on the first day of classes for Milwaukee Public Schools on Sept. 2, 7-year-old Caleb Harris danced to the “Macarena” playing over a school speaker. Away from the gaggle of cameras around the governor and other visiting officials, he was excited to get back to his favorite subject, math. In a school district where many students switch schools over the years, Caleb’s mother, Rajanay Jones, said she plans to stay with Browning and is sending her younger child there, too.
