Parents in the U.S. are experiencing significant stress, with nearly half reporting overwhelming daily stress, compared to 25% of non-parents, according to a survey by the American Psychological Association (APA). In response, Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy has issued a new advisory highlighting the crucial role of parental well-being for both children and society. The advisory outlines both longstanding pressures—like financial stability—and newer issues such as social media influences. In 2023, 66% of parents reported being overwhelmed by financial worries, with many unable to provide adequate food or housing for their families. Child care costs have also increased by 26% over the past decade, compounding these challenges.
