Less than 24 hours after the Chicago Board of Education announced its plans to resign, over 40 family members of Chicago Public Schools (CPS) students attended a candidate forum at Lane Tech College Prep. The resignation news was fresh on their minds, prompting many to participate at the last minute. Stacie Phillippi, a mother of a 1st grader, expressed discomfort with the mass resignations, describing them as politically motivated. The forum, organized by Raise Your Hand for Illinois Public Education, featured candidates vying for positions on the partially-elected school board, specifically from North Side districts 2 and 4. All six candidates from District 4 attended, while only two of four candidates from District 2 showed up, with one sending a representative due to a personal commitment.
