School Voucher Program Brings Concerned Parents, Guardians to Forum

< 1 min read

An Iowa grandmother, Cassidy Pfiffner, expressed skepticism about the likelihood of a vote on the state’s School Voucher Program, which she believes the majority of Iowans oppose. At a community forum in Davenport, parents and guardians voiced concerns about the program, which allows families to receive state funding for private school tuition through a Students First Education Savings Account. Pfiffner argued that the program diverts crucial funding from public schools, especially in rural areas where private schools are absent. Another grandparent, Glenda Guster, emphasized the need for more resources in public schools, advocating for increased funding rather than supporting private education. This school year, Iowa approved vouchers for over 18,000 students, based on household income.
