The Texas Supreme Court ruled against lawmakers who had used a subpoena to delay the execution of Robert Roberson, a death row inmate convicted of killing his daughter in a “shaken baby” case. The subpoena, issued by the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee, sought Roberson’s testimony about his case, especially in relation to a 2013 law allowing inmates to challenge convictions based on new forensic science. This temporarily halted Roberson’s October 17 execution.
