The 5 States with the Longest Life Expectancies, and the 5 with the Shortest

< 1 min read

A recent analysis published in Nature Aging indicates that human life expectancy may be plateauing after years of improvement. Lead author S. Jay Olshansky noted that while many people are living to 85 or 90, reaching 100 is unlikely for most. According to a 2022 CDC report, the average life expectancy in the U.S. is 77.5 years, but this varies by state due to factors like environment, diet, and healthcare access. The analysis highlights the five states with the longest and shortest life expectancies. New Jersey, with a life expectancy of 79.0 years, ranks fifth longest, boasting high health insurance coverage and low depressive disorder rates. New York also has a life expectancy of 79.0 years, with a low percentage of uninsured residents and similarly low rates of depressive disorders.
