School bus workers at First Student Transportation Company are unionizing due to concerns about working conditions, such as inadequate PPE, unguaranteed hours, heavy lifting, and issues with parents. The nearly 200 workers at the company’s Joor Road location voted overwhelmingly in favor of unionizing, with the process taking just 90 minutes. The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1546 President, George DeCuir, stated that unionization will give workers a voice to negotiate better wages, working conditions, and health benefits, addressing concerns about unfair treatment.
