West Michigan library defunded over LGBTQ books wins tax support on 3rd try

February 8 2024- After being defunded twice in previous votes over LGBTQ-themed books, the Patmos Library in west Michigan won taxpayer support to stay open. In a vote in Jamestown Township, Ottawa County, the library secured approval for an operating millage with a 63% to 37% margin. The library had gained international attention during the previous defunding attempts, with more than $300,000 donated to support its operations. The latest vote marks the end of a contentious culture war over library materials
