School Closures in Chandigarh Extended to Sept 7 Amid Heavy Rainfall

Chandigarh authorities have extended the closure of all schools until September 7 following days of incessant rainfall across the region.
An official statement confirmed that schools will reopen only after a proper safety audit and verification to ensure the well-being of students.
Schools had already remained shut earlier this week, and now government and private-aided colleges have also been ordered to close from September 4 to 6, though hostels will stay open.
Punjab, which has been declared flood-hit, has also extended the closure of schools, colleges, and universities until September 7 as swollen rivers and rivulets continue to flood large areas.
In times of natural disasters, protecting children’s right to safety must remain the highest priority.
