“I Won’t Deny My Advantage”: Temi Otedola Embraces ‘Nepo Baby’ Tag, Says Family Privilege Should Not Be Overlooked

Nigerian actress and media personality Temi Otedola has sparked conversations about family support, privilege and children’s opportunities after openly acknowledging the advantages she gained while growing up in a financially secure home.

Speaking on The How Far Podcast, which she co-hosts with her husband, singer Mr Eazi, Temi said recognising privilege is an important part of being honest about the different circumstances children experience while growing up.

The actress, who is the daughter of businessman Femi Otedola, explained that privilege is not only about having famous or influential parents. According to her, it also includes access to quality education, basic needs, security and opportunities that can shape a child’s future.

Temi said children who grow up in supportive environments often receive foundations that help them pursue their dreams. She noted that family connections can sometimes provide opportunities that may not be available to others, describing such advantages as a form of nepotism.

However, she emphasised that having support does not remove the importance of personal effort, saying she has worked to make the most of the opportunities available to her.

Her comments highlight a wider conversation about the role families play in children’s development. Child development experts often emphasise that a child’s environment, access to resources and encouragement from caregivers can influence confidence, education and future opportunities.

By acknowledging the support she received, Temi’s message encourages families to reflect on how they can create nurturing environments where children are given the tools, guidance and opportunities needed to reach their potential. It also reinforces the importance of recognising that every child deserves access to support systems that help them thrive.
